Hazel Warner – Area Manager – North West England/Wales
Hazel Warner BSc, PGCE, PGC SEN, PGD SpLD, AMBDA, APC (PATOSS), MDG
Are you or your child struggling in school, university or in the workplace?
When you first begin to suspect that your child (or you or a loved one) is sometimes struggling at school, it can be tempting to assume that they will grow out of it, or that perhaps you are worrying unnecessarily. The reality is that some do because they are late developers. However, some do not. Eventually, a pattern begins to emerge and you just know that there is an issue of some kind, even though there are many voices still urging you to give your child more time.
You begin to question whether your child has dyslexia or that you are dyslexic. This can be a difficult time, as you have probably been thinking about it for a long time. You may have been talking to your child’s school or you may be struggling with aspects of course work or work in general.
So what do you do next?
Please do not hesitate to take one of our screeners, this will give you an idea as to whether you or your child may be dyslexic or have another specific learning difficulty. The questionnaire is £10, that includes a consultation with the area manager close to you. All the Area Managers have vast experience in this area and will be able to help you with your next steps.
Who are we?
I look after the North of England/Wales but I am also here to help and support people from around the country. I have been a dyslexia tutor and assessor for many years, having been a Principal for Dyslexia Action and director of Dyslexia North West. My role is to find you the most suitable tutor or assessor to meet your needs. I and all the other Area Managers will try our absolute best to support you and facilitate your requirement in any way possible. We have online tutors as well as face to face support and assessment.
What do we offer?
All the Area Managers have a number of Teachers, Assessors and Consultant Psychologists that we work with across the area.
Each practitioner will have their own prices but generally support starts at approximately £36.50 per tutoring session, screening assessments from £175 and full diagnostic assessments from £415. All the Teachers, Assessors and Consultant Psychologists have full DBS certificates and are fully qualified in specialist teaching or assessing.
Some teachers work online with students and others work from an office or are happy to come to your home. There may be travel expenses if they come to you. Over recent times, we have been providing online tuition via Zoom. Parent feedback has expressed delight with these specialist Literacy/Maths tuition sessions, especially as they maintain the crucial multi-sensory element. Specialist tutors use video conferencing, alongside the use of shared whiteboards, which allow them and their pupils to write, type, draw and control the shared screen. This really supercharges the multi-sensory element of the tuition. Having information presented in different ways can be hugely beneficial to those with dyslexia, other specific differences or those who just find literacy or maths tricky at times!
Many teachers and assessors will assess/teach/support in schools, colleges, universities or workplaces. They can also teach on a 1 to 1 or small group basis in schools. We have a selection of teachers and assessors that will work with university students or school-age learners or in the workplace, so whatever your need is, we will try our best to accommodate this for you.
Dyslexia Awareness Courses
There is also a variety of teachers and assessors that will be able to deliver awareness courses for institutions, so they can become more Dyslexia friendly.
